FIELD VISIT TO PRIYADARSHINI PLANETARIUM

Planning
As a part of 1st semester B.Ed curriculum we ought to visit a filed, which should be closely related to the optional subject, the physical science. To fix the place, we conducted a meeting with our class teacher. By considering the majority opinion, we decide to visit ‘Priyadarshini’ Planetarium, Trivandrum. And after we fixed the date of visit and inform the higher authority. Principal granted the permission and provide some valuable instructions.

Preparation
As a preparation, we collect some data regarded to the ‘Priyadarshini’ Planetarium, which include the show timings, duration, bus route etc. then we planed the trip time and booked a tourist bus. We informed the details to every parent and requested other teachers support.

Execution
Yes, the field trip to “Priyadarshini Planetarium” on 12th October, 2016 was indeed a flight through the universe. The magnificent planetarium building captivated the students. A model satellite launcher at the entrance fascinated all of them. Before we proceeded to the sky theatre, there was an informative session. They briefed about the history of the planetarium and attached some universe details, especially about the constellations, solar systems, and space stations etc. There were a few other exhibits at the Planetarium which enlightened the learners. Inside the planetarium, there was a clear dome on the ceiling for us to see the sky. As the lights dimmed and the journey through the stars began, the excitement among the trainees was overwhelming. The skies came alive on their massive dome theater in the sky the stars are beautiful and bright. They seem, by the naked eye to be moving but the earth is what is actually moving. Everyone knows that the sky doesn't move. The earth rotates around the sun. The earth being in a different spot in its' orbit all the time gives us different stars to see at different times out of the year. We saw the planets and stars like Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Earth, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Space was very exciting. We saw how the Universe was created with the Big Bang. There were many Black Holes, Galaxies, space showers, meteorites, etc. We were thinking that we are in real space. We saw the Milky Way and our Solar System. And the planets were also looking real.We saw some beautiful Shooting Stars. They were falling down at great speed. We were thinking that we are flying in the space. The show was extremely good and provided a good visual experience as well as factual knowledge of astronomy. No doubt, in this modern age with a good exposure to technology, one doesn’t really find it difficult to learn topics related to astronomy, but the experience was amazing.
