India’s 3rdnational
festival, Gandhi Jayanti, is celebrated by the entire nation to commemorate the
birth anniversary of the father of our nation-Mahatama Gandhi. B.Ed. trainees
celebrated bapu’s birthday in Fathima Memorial Training college, on 3rd October,
2016, with great zeal, enthusiasm and patriotism. Gandhi Jayanti is also
celebrated as the International Peace Day all across the world.
The programme
began with fathiha. A devotional ambience prevailed as the programme started
with a meaningful prayer service in the form of ‘Sarva Matha Prarthana’.
As Gandhiji said “The need of the moment is not one religion but mutual respect
and tolerance of different religions.” It was proved by reading a verse each
from the Bible, Quran and Bhagavad-Gita. The teacher trainees read
out and interpreted the verses. Mrs Charutha, college union chairperson, welcomed
the gathering. Dr A Uniskunju, chairman, FMET, inaugurated the ceremony. And in
his inaugural address upheld the values of Gandhiji and highlighted the
sacrifice he made for the country. Dr Anitha N, principal, FMNC, address the
audience and hailed the sacrifices of freedom fighters. And she also specifies,
why it is celebrated as international peace day? Vice-principal of college Dr Mini KS given a
short reflection on Gandhiji and his values on peace to the trainees. Thus, the
trainees of college were given a deep insight into the life and times of
Mahatama Gandhi and encouraged to think about the sacrifice of our freedom
fighters, analyse the importance and understand the value of freedom. Romeo of Second
year social science option, compered the whole programme. Joshy Britto of first
year Natural science option, delivered the vote of thanks.
After
the ceremony union members divides the trainees into various group and assigned
different duties. Such as cleaning in different portion of the college which
includes, college entrance portion and associated road, college ground,
library, class rooms, corridors, auditorium and toilet area. In addition to
this a small group of trainees were engaged with the preparation of ‘kapa’ and
‘chadni’, popular traditional food of Kerala. Both the cleaning and cooking
were taken places simultaneously at different locations of college. After cleaning
students were assembled in college auditorium and union members distributed the
‘kapa’ and ‘chadni’. Even though trainees were so tired but they
enthusiastically and actively take part in the Gandhi Jayanti event
celebrations. The whole day programme concluded by singing the National anthem.
